What's the origin of Get Nae-Nae’d?
Nae-nae is the name of the dance from Silentó’s 2015 hit, Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae), although the phrase is credited to Atlanta hip-hop group We Are Toonz.
The first post where “get nae-nae’d” appears was uploaded to Reddit by user n0xWave in May, 2016.
The picture depicts a transparent photo of Danny Devito over a chat prank, which ends with the punchline “You just got nae nae’d”.

How did Get Nae-Nae’d spread?
The phrase was first defined on Urban Dictionary on November 21st, 2016, saying it was coined by Danny Devito in 2009, this, however, is not ratified.
On March 24th, 2017, the chat’s photo was posted on iFunny, without the Danny Devito overlay.
In April, 2017, “get nae-nae’d” would appear on Instagram, captioned on a photo of Touch Me from Final Fantasy VII.
The meme would appear in posts and videos on Reddit as well as YouTube in later years.
