They did surgery on a grape is a copypasta meme, created after Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois made a presentation on the efficiency of the da Vinci Surgical System by using it to peel a grape.
After Cheddar made a video about the procedure, many picked it up online and a screenshot was posted on Instagram, that turned viral.
The original video was uploaded by Edward Hospital on August 11th, 2010.
Tech site Cheddar posted a clip from the original footage on Twitter on August 1st, 2017, coupled with the caption “they did surgery on a grape”.
The first “they did surgery on a grape” meme was posted on January 16th, 2018, on Instagram.
Following that, people started posting screen captures of the screenshot, adding multiple captions, all saying “they did surgery on a grape”.
Later, several photoshop edits started surfacing on Twitter, as well as Instagram all related to the trope of surgery and grapes.
