What does Yare Yare Daze mean?

Yare Yare Daze is a popular catchphrase from the manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, said by the character Jotaro Kujo.

The phrase is used to express boredom, irritation and displeasure and it literally translates from Japanese “Well well”.

There are several existing translations of the catchphrase, running from “Give me a f**g break” to “What a pain” to the most popular and viral one; “Good grief”.

What's the origin of Yare Yare Daze?

Jotaro Kujo is the protagonist of the 3rd story arc of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures, which ran between 1989 and 1992 and is titled “Stardust Crusaders”.

The manga got its animated adaptation in 2014.

The famous sentence made its appearance in the second episode of the series, which had aired on April 11th, 2014.

How did Yare Yare Daze spread?

The first Urban Dictionary entry on the expression was added by a user, named none other, than Jotaro Kujo in 2009, shortened as YYD.

Following the anime adaptation of the manga series, various clips of the protagonist were uploaded to YouTube, as he is saying “Yare Yare Daze”.

These videos had amassed a massive amount of views, most likely by the otakus, who are so amazed and blown away by the expression.

There are even some memes, created from the catchphrase, one for example, featuring Charlie Brown depicted as Jotaro, saying “Good grief”.
