Thrupple is a combination of the words three and couple and it refers to a couple that consists of three people of any kind of preference.
It is alternately called a polyamorous couple or a triad.

What's the origin of Thrupple?
The term first appeared around 1994, in online discourses about relationships, especially non-conventional relationships.
It gained more of a presence during the 2000’s and first appeared on Urban Dictionary in 2007.
Spread & Usage
How did Thrupple spread?
“Thrupple” was further popularized in 2014, when Stephen Colbert was presenting a story about a “thrupple” wedding on The Colbert Report.
Since then, the phenomenon was featured in RuPaul’s Drag Race as well as the 2018 Netflix show Insatiable.
