Tucute

Meaning

What does Tucute mean?

Tucutes are people who believe that people who feel trans – as in, they feel like a different gender than they are born – do not have to experience gender dysphoria in order to be trans.

This is opposite to the people who are “truscum”; people who claim that a person cannot be a true trans if they don’t feel dysphoria while living as their assigned gender.

“Tucutes” are inclusive of all people that identify as trans, and a minority even claim that gender dysphoria doesn’t exist.

Origin

What's the origin of Tucute?

The term was coined by Tumblr user idislikecispeople in the early 2010’s, and is still mainly used on the same platform, along with its opposite, “truscum”.

It was first defined on Urban Dictionary by user MysticalMorgan in 2015.

Spread & Usage

How did Tucute spread?

While most trans people don’t have strong opinions about whether another person can identify themselves as trans or not, there are great discussions between “tucutes” and “truscums”, as both insist that the others belief spoils the concept of being real trans.

Do not confuse “tucutes” with “non-dysphoric trans” people, as many “tucutes” do indeed experience gender dysphoria.

However, “tucutes” doesn’t have to be trans personally, they can also be supporters.

There is a small sub for “tucute” people on Reddit defined as ‘A community for anyone who believes that non-dysphoric trans people are valid!’.
