Various forms of the expression were already present in English since the 17th century, with examples like fruit low hung or fruit hanging low turning up in documentations, however, the earliest example of “low hanging fruit” first emerged in the early 1900’s.
An early example of the phrase appears in a 1968 article, by The Guardian, where it was used in the sense of referring to something easily obtainable.
