What does Gekyume mean?

Gekyume has been described as a “next universe of thought”, a higher state of mind. It was coined by the late hip hop artist XXXTentacion and he named his only son, Gekyume Onfroy after the expression as well.

Gekyume Onfroy was born to Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, alias XXXTentacion and the mother of the child, Jenesis Sanchez on January 26, 2019. His name was chosen by his father shortly before his death and is said to mean “a different state or reality”. The exact origin of the word is unknown, but it is believed to be derived from an African language.

The concept of “Gekyume” is closely linked to XXXTentacion‘s music and lyrics, which often dealt with themes such as pain, depression, but also resilience and hope for a better future. He hoped that “Gekyume” would serve as a reminder for people to strive for a better life.

“Gekyume” is a word that was created by late rapper and singer, XXXTentacion. It has no exact meaning but it is believed to refer to a higher plane of thought. He explained the concept of “Gekyume” in an Instagram post back in March 2018. His mother revealed that the word was inspired by her son’s desire to communicate with his fans after he passed away.

As XXXTentacion‘s mother explained, “Gekyume” is a word that the late rapper and his family made up to refer to “a higher state of consciousness.” In other words, it’s a way of thinking that is beyond our current level of understanding.

While the exact origins of the word are unclear, it’s likely that XXXTentacion drew inspiration from a variety of sources, including Afro-centric spirituality and philosophy. Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that “Gekyume” has taken on a life of its own in the wake of the rapper’s untimely death.

How did Gekyume spread?

Even before the death of the artist, “Gekyume” had received a large amount of popularity from his fans, already being defined on Urban Dictionary by May 2018. This was most likely due to the fact that one of the lead singles, titled “SAD!” from XXXTentacion‘s second studio album “?” featured a mysterious, prophetic character, called “Gekyume”.

The untimely death of the artist in June 2018 had lead to a massive surge in the public’s curiosity concerning him and his works, leading to an increased spread of the term “Gekyume.” This was further exasperbated when the mother of XXXTentacion announced that her grandchild will be named “Gekyume.”

Even preceding his birth, the young “Gekyume” received a great amount of popularity and curiosity online, which didn’t slow even after his birthday on January 26th, 2019.

This ever growing tabloid trend concerning the family of the late artist had spawned a wide array of memes and extreme opinions online, leading to many a discussions and arguments on social media sites, especially on Twitter, which truly blew up following a massive obsession about the circumcision of the young Gekyume Onfroy.

Now in 2023, the child, aged 4, still receives a large amount of attention online from fans of the late songwriter, with many believing the child to be a reincarnation of his father.
