Thicc, a term of slang that denotes the feminine form with voluptuous curves in all the right places. It is intentionally spelled incorrectly and fashioned after hip hop culture’s “dat” for that or “phat” for fat.
The word can be employed to convey either playful humor or sexual innuendo.
The lexicon of African American vernacular utilized a specific phrase to depict an alluring, shapely female (presumably of the black race). The ascent of “Thicc” into mainstream culture commenced during hip hop’s halcyon days in the 1990s, and was featured prominently in numerous rap tracks.
By the early 2000s, this expression had already infiltrated cyberspace via websites that showcased lyrics from popular rap songs.
Fast-forward to 2015 and “Thicc” had become ubiquitous – even earning an entry on Urban Dictionary. Soon after this milestone moment came memes galore featuring fictional characters or everyday objects that one wouldn’t typically find alluringly plump.
And so, it goes: from Twitter feeds to Reddit threads; 4chan boards to YouTube comments sections…the slang word’s conquest over every corner of the internet was complete.
