What's the origin of Vote for Pedro?

The legendary movie was debuted in 2004, presenting us with the adventures of Napoleon Dynamite and his friend Pedro Sanchez, both of whom are socially awkward teenagers.

One thread of the plot involves the two teens doing a massive campaign project before school, in order to get Pedro elected as class president.

The protagonist and his companion are shown in a montage, putting flyers everywhere in school, as well as giving out armbands to students, accompanied with the line; “Vote for Pedro.”

The enormous success of the film among younger generations had led to the creation of a plethora of merchandize, using the iconic phrase from the movie.

Hats, T-shirts, mugs are still sold as of July 29th, 2020.

The recent events in US politics also brought a revival for the catchphrase, some people going as far as giving in a protest vote, that had its tick on “Pedro” meaning some people voted for Pedro during the 2016 elections.
