Do you guys not have phones? is a viral remark, made by Wyatt Cheng, principal game designer of Blizzard’s Diablo Immortal at the 2018 BlizzCon.
The question was posed by Cheng as the crowd was booing, due to the fact that the game would be released solely for mobile platforms.
Since then, “Do you guys not have phones?” became a symbolic phrase, associated with video game developers, who are seen as unattached from their audience.
The remark was posed by Wyatt Cheng on November 2nd, 2018, at the BlizzCon, where they revealed the next Diablo installment to be a mobile game.
Upon hearing the dissatisfaction of the crowd, after confirming that the game couldn’t be played on PC, Cheng asked “Do you guys not have phones?” which only served as gas to the flames.
Days within the statement, YouTube videos, highlights and clips would surface, mocking Blizzard, as well as many major developers in the gaming industry, who are seen as overly money oriented.
The catchphrase, “Do you guys not have phones?” would also appear later on discussions on Reddit.
