I drink your milkshake refers to a memorable quote from the movie There Will Be Blood, uttered by Daniel Plainview as a metaphor to demonstrate his dominance to Eli Sunday, thanks to oil draining.
There Will Be Blood premiered in the United States on September 27th, 2007.
The final scene of the movie depicts Eli Sunday attempting to sell his final plot of land, unowned by his rival Daniel Plainview (portrayed by Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano respectively).
Plainview reacts to this, by explaining he already owns the oil in that land, thanks to draining it on to his lands.
It is here, he says the iconic lines “If you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw, my straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake.” “I drink your milkshake”.
Parodies and montages started emerging, often with titles like There Will Be Milksakes, like the first YouTube upload of this genre, shared by Kevin Kunze on January 13th, 2008.
In the following months, various other remixes were shared on the video uploading platform, usually remixing scenes from the movie with the 2003 single of Kelis “Milkshake”.
