The phrase was first shared in a tweet on October 29th, 2018, by Twitter user @Dustinkcouch who wrote a short dialogue between a NASA employee and an astronaut, where the latter is cocking a gun while saying “Moon’s haunted”.
The tweet received a lot of retweets and likes, setting the stage for a meme to come.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep’s reveal trailer was uploaded to YouTube on June 6th, 2019, with the game’s primary plot revolving around the Moon.
Seamachine would use this reveal as inspiration to newer comics, featuring the catchphrase “Moon’s haunted”.
