Pool’s Closed

Meaning

What does Pool’s Closed mean?

Pool’s closed is a catchphrase that labels an internet movement and rebellion. It took place on online avatar community similar to Club Penguin, called Habbo Hotel, in the mid-2000s.

Members of the community protested against some of the moderators’ alleged racial tendencies by creating afro avatars in business suits, and blocking busy hubs with them.

An iconic image that features an afro man with his arm crossed became the trademark of the movement.

Origin

What's the origin of Pool’s Closed?

The movement sparked out on 4chan’s /b/ (random) board in 2006.

Various anonymous members started to accuse the moderator crew of online avatar community Habbo Hotel, claiming that the mods maintain racial profiling on the servers.

A group of these anons formed the team of “lockers” and blocked waypoints with their avatars by exploiting a glitch in the game. Their catchphrase became pool’s closed.

Spread & Usage

How did Pool’s Closed spread?

These operations turned out to be very successful and the community started to grow during the year 2016.

The leaders of /b/lockers started to put more effort into organization, eventually producing instructions to newcomers of how to join the raids.

Somebody developed a software dedicated to bypass server rules, named Pool Tool.
