The idea of the “Scottish Pokémon trainer” emerged following the announcement of Pokémon Sword and Shield in a Nintendo Direct stream, on February 27th, 2019.
Many viewers remarked on Twitter that the setting of the game largely resembles England, which resulted in the creation of many posts, parodying Pokémon as if it were set in the United Kingdom.
Many of these tweets included screenshots of Gloria, paired with text that depict her as speaking with a thick Scottish accent.
