“Starship Troopers” premiered in the United States on November 4th, 1997, receiving wide acclaim from viewers.

One of the scenes in the movie depict an advertisement for the Mobile Infantry, where several soldiers look into the camera and say “I’m Doing My Part”.

The phrase would be seen in early image macros and GIFs around 2015 and 2016, however, its popularity surged in 2018, as it would become a more and more frequent phenomenon on meme sites like 9GAG, me.me as well as social media sites like Reddit, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, where “I’m Doing My Part” may appear as an image macro or a GIF.

It also became a popular exploitable meme format, while also inspiring mashups with other memes. Despite this, the template didn’t survive long, as it was obscured by more popualr meme trends online in the late 2010s.
