Materwelon refers to a popular image macro series of a made-up fruit, a reverse watermelon.

The fruit itself is frequently depicted alongside Meme Man, who is known from memes like Stonks, Succ and I Have Achieved Comedy.

“Materwelon” first appeared in a post, shared on Reddit’s r/dankmemes sub by a deleted user on June 19^th, 2019.

In a short span of time, the meme was reposted on various other subreddits, as well as me.me.

“Materwelon” became a popular ironic meme online, with iterations and combinations with various other memes like Meme Man appearing on subreddits and humor sites like iFunny and 9GAG emerging in the years following 2019.

It was first defined on Urban Dictionary on September 14^th, 2020.

The meme also appeared in the YouTube upload of Car Velos Dos, shared on February 14^th, 2022, under the title “materwelon”.
