By September 2007, quotes and jokes including “Row Row Fight the Power” already appeared on 4chan, mostly on the /a/ board.
On September 10th, 2008, the /b/ board’s layout on 4chan was changed so that every word would say “Row Row Fight the Power” similar to the words of the Giga Pudding commercial.
This word filter jest yielded the result of the catchphrase spreading widely across the message board, appearing in various other boards, while some users were trying to resist the trend.
In the following months, webcomics and animations, ridiculing the word filter trend on 4chan were uploaded to sites like DeviantArt and YouTube.
Within the following years, “Row Row Fight the Power” spawned many remixes and parodies online, although its popularity was replaced by another Gurren Lagann meme; Kamina Glasses.
